The Funniest Facebook Fails

By Cyril Patricks

It is fair to say that some people really should not be allowed to use social network sites. After all, it's embarrassing enough when you make a mistake without every one of your family friends seeing it too! So from minor personal mishaps to larger corporate misjudgements, here are a few examples of Facebook fails.

Things your friends should never read

Whether through genuine stupidity or fuelled by alcohol, we've all updated our Facebook status which something we later regret sharing, whether it's sharing something perhaps too personal with everyone or simply revealing how excited you are about tonight's (no-longer secret) surprise party.

Things your parents should never read

Often ignorance is bliss, but really feel for those sons and daughters who have ended having to explain what certain innuendos posted on their wall means. Like for the son whose friend posted a message saying how he thought his mum was 'a right MILF' only later the son having to explain to his mum (who was his Facebook friend too) that it really meant 'Mum I'll Love Forever'. Phew.

Things your boss should never read

We may be more clued in on how Facebook works now, but at the start this was certainly not the case. Everyone remembers the girl who updated her status about her 'pervy boss' and the 'rubbish work she had to do' (of course stronger language was used) only to be publicly told by her boss (who she forgot could read her statuses) that a) he was gay and certainly wouldn't be interested and b) her p45 was in the post. What a fail.

Things your consumers should never read

But even the big-shots can get it wrong. In 2010, Dr Pepper brought a whole new meaning to their slogan 'What's the worst that can happen?' when they launched an online campaign via Facebook encouraging their predominantly teenage fan-base to send in their embarrassing updates. As an example, Dr Pepper shared a rather unfortunate example referring to a pornographic film, resulting in many complaints and the abandonment of the campaign.
