J.R. Smith in the Chinese League

By Smith Tylor

Denver Nuggets free agent J.R. Smith is following Wilson Chandler overseas. Smith, whose deal with the Denver Nuggets expired in the offseason, signed a contract to play in China for this season. Smith signed a one year-contract with a team in Zhejiang and he won't be allowed to play in the NBA if there is a 2011-12 season. Chandler is going to the same province but not to the same team.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has not fought in 16 months, since his near shutout of Shane Mosley, but apparently not much has changed between now and then. Mayweather continues to be confident and straightforward. He considers that he can't be defeated. He still flashes his bundles of money and bling and has a lot of distractions outside the ring. He also imposes attention as he gets ready to fight welterweight titleholder Victor Ortiz. Hollywoodsportsbook.com

Mayweather considers that he's still looking sharp and young. He runs at 3 or 4 in the morning and he doesn't consider that he's loosing skills. Mayweather has taken care of himself between fights and during his layoffs.

TV lineup for the split-site HBO PPV card on Saturday night (9 ET) from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and Staples Center in Los Angeles: Welterweights: Victor Ortiz (29-2-2, 22 KOs) vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. (41-0, 25 KOs), 12 rounds, for Ortiz's title. Junior middleweights: Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (37-0-1, 27 KOs) vs. Alfonso Gomez (23-4-2, 12 KOs), 12 rounds, for Alvarez's title (from Los Angeles).

The NBA seasons seems to be uncertain. The talks are going nowhere and no more meetings are scheduled. For this reason more players might be interested in going overseas. Other players really want to play basketball this season and are considering playing in Asia as an option. Hollywoodsportsbook.com

Junior welterweights: Jessie Vargas (16-0, 9 KOs) vs. Josesito Lopez (29-3, 17 KOs), 10 rounds. This is probably going to be the biggest fight of the year. The 34-year-old Mayweather will face the youthful exuberance of Ortiz. Mayweather is a future Hall of Famer, a five-division champion and one of the greatest fighters of his generation. Ortiz is coming off the best win of his career. This win came in April outpointing Andre Berto and winning a 147-pound belt in an electrifying fight. Even though Ortiz (29-2-2, 22 KOs) is respected for his youth and strength, not many people give him a chance to win. Ortiz is a 5-to-1 underdog, even though the 24-year-old is definitely the best opponent Mayweather (41-0, 25 KOs) could have chosen.
